Academic Center for Excellence

The purpose of the Academic Center for Excellence is to assist Tri-C faculty in improving their teaching and instructional delivery. The emphasis includes both encouraging instructors in mastering new technology, and integrating technology into teaching practices, both in a traditional or distance learning context. The ACE will sponsor activities such as informal discussions and speakers to encourage faculty to exchange their ideas about the challenges of teaching Tri-C students. The staff of the ACE is committed to finding resources for improving teaching and making them accessible to Tri-C faculty. This resource center provides both one-on-one consultation and assistance through small group instruction. The ACE staff can assist you with designing course structure, new teaching strategies, and instructional support materials.

If you are interested in course planning and design, or incorporating more technology into your instruction, the staff of the ACE can assist you with:

  • Creating effective assignments for Web-based instruction.
  • Effectively utilizing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Using a computer video projector or media cart.
  • Designing instructional materials for different learning styles.
  • Digitizing existing materials for electronic use.
  • Mastering IVDL (Interactive Video Learning) Instruction.
  • Designing and adapting materials for IVDL use.
  • Incorporating methods for enhancing student participation and motivation.
  • Utilizing the CurricuNet and WIDS curriculum development applications.

Overall, the ACE encourages faculty at all stages of their careers to develop their skill in instructional delivery. We foster a climate of respect for teaching in a community college environment by providing advice on the evaluation of skill and assessment for continued excellence in teaching.
