Institute for Banking, Finance, and Insurance
The Institute for Banking, Finance and Insurance
is a premier center and clearinghouse for high quality, accessible, and affordable professional development for employers, employees, students, and others interested in careers in banking, financial services, and insurance across Northeast Ohio.
Employee upgrading of skills and career advancement will be supported by the Institute's continuing education, licensure, and certification programs at Corporate College East and West. Employers will have access to contract training, consulting services, and courses which are offered on campus and at client locations. The Institute will also attract and prepare young persons for such careers with programs on the "basics of finance," and internship job shadowing experiences.
More than 75,000 Northeast Ohioans are currently employed in these enterprises with hundreds of companies from small independent firms to Fortune 500 giants, and the demand for financial services skills is high. To illustrate, advertised job openings for accountants, auditors, and financial analysts in early 2005 ranked in the top ten occupations within a fifty mile radius of downtown Cleveland.

Construction Apprenticeship Training Center
Construction Apprenticeship Training Center , formerly known as Construction & Building Technologies Division, provides employer-sponsored training for electricians, carpenters, iron workers, operating engineers, and brick layers.
Each apprenticeship program is conducted with the Joint Apprenticeship Training Council of the respective trade. Apprenticeship training often takes three to five years for completion and many students continue on to earn two-year degrees in applied sciences.
Four-year degrees in technology management and construction management are also offered through partnerships with Kent State University and the University of Akron.
Additionally, once students obtain journeyperson status, the Center offers courses in project management and project estimating. Many students go on to own and manage their own companies in the construction industry.
Overall, the Center's purpose is to provide training and education for the construction trades for lifelong learning. Each year, the Construction Apprenticeship Training Center trains more than 2,100 students in the construction trades.
The Center also works closely with each Joint Apprenticeship Training Council to facilitate recruitment and raise awareness of the construction trades through industry trade fairs.

Key Entrepreneur Development Center
The Key Entrepreneur Development Center is a group of established small business owners and new, startup company executives know that sometimes you just need a little help to make informed decisions about moving forward. "Get it from the experts," is what experienced business owners will tell you. At the Key Entrepreneur Development Center at Tri-C, entrepreneurs from all industries can find a wide variety of answers to questions from advertising to taxes. The Center provides a comprehensive set of learning options and tools, including self-directed e-learning, traditional instructor-led classes, and distance-learning initiatives.
The online Answer, Ask an Expert, and Listen to the Expert services allow individuals to get the answers they need to grow their business. The Center has facilitated round tables where entrepreneurs can get help and advice from seasoned entrepreneurs.
The Key Entrepreneur Development Center provides transformational programming that focuses on:
- Providing would-be business owners the tools to evaluate their entrepreneurial readiness.
- Individual, confidential business consulting to people considering becoming an entrepreneur.
- Helping established businesses grow by managing their businesses effectively, increasing sales, and planning for the future.
The center is supported by a multiyear grant from the Key Foundation, who, in 2005, presented Tri-C with $1 million for establishment of the Key Entrepreneur Development Center.

Practitioner Certificate in Gerontology
The Practitioner Certificate in Gerontology is designed to meet the needs of individuals who wish to further their professional training while they work. This program is designed to promote understanding of the aging process, develop geriatric assessment skills, and provide information about the special care needs of older adults. The certificate requires the completion of a minimum of 66 contact hours: 36 hours of required courses and 30 hours of elective courses. Most courses are offered in a one-day format.

Center for Health Industry Solutions
Cuyahoga Community College's Center for Health Industry SolutionsCHIS) fuels a major economic engine in Northeast Ohio - healthcare, in the form of human capital. High quality classes, certifications, and continuing professional education courses are offered to healthcare professionals, from those needing to maintain licensure to entry-level workers just beginning their careers.
For those starting a career in the healthcare field, the Center's state-approved nurse assistant training program gives students the instruction and hands-on clinical experience needed to work in long-term care facilities, hospitals, clinics, and home health agencies. To better prepare students for the workforce, this fast-track course also offers an expanded program that includes career growth skills, job readiness training, and job placement assistance.
To meet the fast-paced changes in medical reimbursement and financial viability, CHIS offers training in medical coding, hospital health information management, and medical practice management from career-entry evening classes to advanced-level CEU seminars and certifications.
CHIS provides reimbursement training to meet the needs of medical practices and hospitals today. Programs are available for individuals who would like to upgrade their skills, as well as for those who want to maintain licensure or certification. Programming is now offered, or under development, for a variety of professions including Dental Auxiliaries, Opticians, Registered Nurses, Physician Assistants, and Veterinary Technicians.
The Center for Health Industry Solutions provides affordable, convenient, and easily accessible classes. Classes are available at a variety of locations and at various times. A wide array of healthcare training can be taken online.

A business is only as good as its leaders and not everyone is born into the role.At Corporate College's Leadership Institute, high performance leaders are developed through customized training to fit the needs of a wide range of industries. World-class programs taught by top-notched facilitators - at our location or yours - are available for mid-level managers all the way to chief executive officers. Coaching, delegation, conflict management, strategic planning, emotional intelligence, and negotiation skills are only a few of the fast-track courses available for emerging corporate stars to refine their leadership skills.
The Leadership Institute's experienced consultants custom-design curriculum including traditional, instructor-led classes, along with e-learning and distance-learning programs. Lifelong Learning
At age 55, today's mature adults often aren't ready to retire and ride off into the sunset to enjoy their golden years.
With the help of the Lifelong Learning program, adults 55 and over enjoy a robust offering of classes and programs that enrich and enhance the quality of life.
Students who enroll for the Encore Campus program meet on Fridays for eight weeks and choose from up to six courses each week from over 30 offerings. Course offerings include: climbing your family tree, (re)introduction to poetry, Greek mythology, drawing, modern Italy, radical bible wisdom, Spanish, the Underground Railroad, Russian fairy tales, savvy investing, and computer basics among others.
The Encore Campus offers 3 sessions each year at both Tri-C's East and West Campuses and at Corporate College West.
The Lifelong Learning program also delivers customized, quality programming of a similar nature on-site at senior and community centers and assisted living facilities.
For folks who don't know what they want to do after retirement, the Pathways program provides classes and individual assistance with holistic retirement planning. Funded by a grant from The Cleveland Foundation, the project addresses not only financial concerns, but quality of life issues.
Certification and continuing education for people who work in the field of aging are also offered.

Literacy Services
It's never too late to continue your education. Adults 16 and over who lack a high school diploma can prepare for and take the GED - also known as the General Education Development test - at several Cuyahoga Community College locations, including the Unified Technologies Center (UTC), with day and evening classes.
Classes to prepare for and complete other standardized tests, including ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT, are also offered through the Literary Services Division.
Literacy Services is the test preparation center and offers workplace skills training, civics instruction, and adult English language skills courses for everyone.
Test preparation classes are offered in formal and informal settings. Students may wish to attend traditional lecture classes or work at their own speed on state-of-the-art computers.
The goal of the center is to provide quality literacy programming through basic skills enhancement so that everyone has the opportunity to improve their quality of life.
Classes serve people from all income ranges, married or single parents, from youth through seniors, and college and high school students.
Partnerships with area social service agencies and businesses include: Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services, AACCESS, Arab-American Community Center for Employment and Social Services, Electrical Union, Cleveland Wood Products, National Safety Apparel, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, YO! Cleveland, and the City of Cleveland One Stop Career Center.

Manufacturing & Applied Technology Center
The Manufacturing & Applied Technology Center provides students with affordable, high-quality training leading to portable skill credentials. The Center offers credit, non-credit, certificate, and customized programs in manufacturing foundation skills, manufacturing technologies, applied industrial maintenance, pre-apprenticeship, and apprenticeship training.
At the Unified Technologies Center (UTC), the shop floor spans more than 12,000-square-feet of completely renovated space that supports the latest equipment which regional manufacturers either currently use or will use in the future. It's the largest industrial maintenance training center in Northeast Ohio and was recently upgraded with a $1 million grant from the Department of Labor.
Fast-track, pre-apprentice programs provide on-the-job training and are a pipeline to employers. Courses include CNC, milling, grinding, layout, blueprint reading, shop math skills, lathe work, and manufacturing theory. Offerings for machinists, tool and dye makers, operators, metalworkers, computer numeric controllers, and computer-aided designers provide marketable skills to meet the growing demands of regional manufacturers. All programs meet the specifications and standards of the Department of Labor.

Law Enforcement and Fire Academies
The Law Enforcement and Fire Academies at Cuyahoga Community College's (Tri-C) Public Safety Institute offer the opportunity for police, fire, and law enforcement students to learn the skills and teamwork necessary to be prepared when called upon for duty.
The Academies provide state-certified training for police officers, fire fighters, security officers, corrections officers, and bailiff personnel as well as advanced training in law enforcement and fire. Hands-on training is given by experienced instructors.
Police Academy*
Our Basic Police Academy is the largest police academy in the State of Ohio. We train more students per year than any other academy.
The evening academy ranks first in the state with a passing rate of 97% on the state certification exam. Approximately 75% of graduates obtain employment with law enforcement agencies.
Courses are offered four times per year starting January, March, July, and September. This 636-hour course meets the requirements of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission for certification as a peace officer. Students earn 22 credit hours toward a degree in Law Enforcement.
Corrections Academy*
Participants must be employed by a correctional facility in order to attend. This 136-hour course is designed to fulfill the training requirements of Administrative Code 109:2-9-05(A)(4) for new or newly assigned corrections staff.
Bailiff Academy*
Persons wishing to become a bailiff must be employed by a court system. Course topics include legal matters, ethics, firearms, defensive tactics, human relations, emergency aid, arresting, and court security.
Security Academy*
Participants include individuals who are either currently employed or seeking employment in commercial/retail loss prevention, assets protection, private security, or other private police functions. This 186-hour course meets the requirements of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission for certification as a private security officer. The academy may be taken with or without firearms. Students earn 12 credit hours toward a degree in Law Enforcement.
Law Enforcement Advanced Training
Various advanced training courses are offered to seasoned law enforcement personnel. Student must be a sworn police officer. Various courses give police officers advanced training/certification in homeland security, cybercrime, jailer, and firearms instruction.
Fire Fighter Training Academy
The Fire Fighter I & II training courses are designed to train the student for an entry-level position into the professional fire service. The training includes topics related to the established requirements of the Ohio Revised Code for Career Fire Fighters and the training and educational requirements identified in NFPA 1001. On average, 200 cadets are trained each year in this 240-hour course. There is a six-week daytime Academy and a 16-week evening Academy, both of which afford the student eight (8) credits toward a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire Technology. The student pass rate is 99 percent. The Academy is the largest and most well-respected Fire Fighter Training Academy in Northeastern Ohio and has the endorsement of the Northeast Ohio Fire Chiefs' Association.
Fire Fighter Advanced Training
The Fire Fighter Advanced Training courses are designed to improve the training levels of the professional fire fighter. This training is designed for the volunteer, part-time, and professional fire fighter.

Health and Productivity Institute
The Health and Productivity Institute at Tri-C's Corporate College is a unique public/private partnership between Tri-C and the Oswald Companies providing a model for Northeast Ohio businesses to gain a competitive edge through strategic planning in the areas of benefits, health management, and productivity.
During the past three years, Tri-C's own health management initiatives saved the College more than $325,000 in medical claims.
